Student Safety App

Exhibitor
The Student Safety App (SSA) is the UK’s first free, student-led safety platform, created in response to rising concerns around student welfare and the tragic deaths of two University of Nottingham students and a caretaker in 2023. Developed in Nottingham and now expanding nationally, SSA is designed to complement existing university and community safeguarding systems, offering an additional, student-powered layer of protection both on and off campus.

Backed by the Barnaby Webber Foundation and former England footballer Emile Heskey, and featured on BBC and ITV News, SSA has quickly gained national recognition as a pioneering social initiative.

Key Features:

Anonymous Incident Reporting – Students can quickly report concerns such as spiking, harassment, or unsafe areas, with verified alerts shared in real time.

Real-Time Safety Alerts – Location-based notifications keep students informed about risks nearby.

SOS & Track Me Tools – Emergency alerts and live location sharing with trusted contacts.

Safe Routes – Alternative route guidance if a reported incident blocks a student’s path home.

24/7 Control Room – All reports are verified before being shared, ensuring accuracy and reliability by our manned control room.

Rewards Section – Access to exclusive student discounts and perks for engaging with the app.

SSA’s mission is simple: to empower students to look out for one another, reduce risk, and give families peace of mind, all while supporting universities in meeting safeguarding obligations such as the OfS E6 Regulation and the upcoming Martyn’s Law.

With Freshers 2025 marking its national rollout, SSA is building the UK’s first student-led safety network- by students, for students, for the moments that matter.
